SOUNDS!

Finally had a chance to encode some Skin Yard and Endino/Earthworm stuff in Realaudio format. I dislike messing with MP3's for several reasons, mostly being 1) they are way too damn slow to download on a 28.8 modem, and 2) I'd rather have you buy the albums if you want to hear it in better quality. Nonetheless, I spent some serious time on these, and they sound about as good as they possibly can for streamable, mono files.

It was fortunate that my recording style with much of the old Skin Yard stuff was very basic: doubled, stereo-panned rhythm guitars with vocals and solos up the middle. Because I often tried to double my rhythm tracks very exactly, sometimes encoding just the left channel or just the right channel sounded much better than combining both sides into mono before encoding.

There are two kinds of file here: files encoded with the old RealAudio 2.0 Encoder which should stream fine at 28.8, and higher-bit-rate files encoded with RealEncoder 5.0 which should stream at 56K.

The 2.0 files average about 400K, and the 5.0 files average about 700 K. If you can take the time, I would recommend the higher-bit-rate files, the sound is much better.
